The Lake Ainslie Weavers and Craft Guild is a dedicated group of individuals who have been organized since 1985. In 1990 the guild obtained the school at Scotsville and over the years have turned it into a vital, community based learning and cultural centre. It is now known as the Scotsville School of Crafts and there we offer a broad range of Spring and Fall courses.
The Scotsville School of Crafts is owned and operated by The Lake Ainslie Weavers and Craft Guild as a registered non profit charitable organization, whose main objective is to perpetuate the traditional celtic hand crafts while incorporating the most modern methods and techniques. The most recent project is to gather information on all textile weaving in Inverness County, Nova Scotia, Canada. The Guild hired two college students last summer to document information and take photographs of weaving and weavers and we plan to eventually compile this into a book.
Our gift shop, open summer hours or by appointment, features handwoven items, tartans, knitted items, paintings, quilted items, woodwork, and much more, all by local artisans. The center also houses a Community Access site, which provides computers with internet access for everyone to use.
